Chid Care
Licensed child care is provided for children ages 18 months through 12 years. Children not yet of school age receive all-day care throughout the year. School-age children receive after school care on school days and all-day care on school holidays and vacations. All the child care programs include educational and enrichment activities, field trips, and meals that meet NYS Department of Health nutritional guidelines.
Universal Pre-K
Thea Bowman House operates this free pre-kindergarten program by the Utica City School District. Certified teachers provide a half day program that helps prepare four-year-olds for kindergarten.
The Peace Garden
The Peace Garden is an ongoing memorial having a two-fold purpose: to remind each and every person that PEACE begins with them and then shared with our families and neighborhood. Also, it is a garden planted as a memorial to those children who have lost their lives especially through violence.
DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended)
DOVE is a collaborative between Thea Bowman House, the YWCA and Family Services designed to teach children about domestic violence and help them with issues they may be facing in their own lives. Thea Bowman House coordinates the program which includes on-site counseling, visits to the educational and support services.
Kids with Promise
This program addresses the needs of "alumnae" of our other programs who would otherwise be without much needed supports as they enter the often difficult teenage years. Stipends are offered to youth who are admitted to the program. Their "jobs" are to make tutoring and homework a top priority and they are involved in on-site job training and job shadowing.
St. Clare's Cupboard & Cleophas Closet
This special program operating out of our Lafayette Street site provides an emergency food pantry for West Utica residents and second hand clothing, free of charge, to anyone in need.
Agape House
This is a home for children who are in long term foster. It is owned and maintained by Thea Bowman House and families are chosen to live there with a special emphasis on keeping siblings together in the same foster family.
