About the Cunninghams
Earl and Sara Cunningham spent many of their retirement years as tutors in the school age child care program at Thea Bowman House. They were there each and every day.
Sara worked with the younger children and her greatest joy was to watch the children improve in reading. As an elementary school teacher, Sara knew the importance of literacy.
Earl took on the challenges of the ever changing world of math, science and social studies, working with middle school and high school students.
The Cunninghams saw first hand that Thea Bowman House students had the same hopes and dreams as other students but often lacked the resources to follow those dreams.
The successful applicant will be a high school graduate who has benefited from the programs of the Thea Bowman House. The candidate must have been accepted to an accredited post-secondary institution that the student will be attending.
Contact Thea Bowman House at 797-0748 to request an application, or click here to download a copy.
As part of the application process you will need to submit a brief biographical statement, a high school transcript, a teacher recommendation and the dates of attendance at Thea Bowman House.
Students may be eligible for additional scholarships for their sophomore, junior and/or senior years of study but must apply again each year and demonstrate successful completion of each year of study.
